Families and friends are invited to unlock the treasures of the deep at an open house taking place under and around Altum, the blue whale skeleton that hangs in Memorial University's Core Science Facility (CSF). Altum (pronounced al-tum) is Latin for “deep," and comes from Memorial’s motto: provehito in altum, which means “launch forth into the deep.” The whale skeleton represents the diverse ocean-related expertise that swims across our campuses.

  • *Accessibility Statement*

This event was designed with accessibility in mind. We have chosen an accessible venue with automatic door openers, large doorways and lots of space to support various visitor needs. While we feel this venue will provide an accessible experience for visitors, there remain some limitations in this space to with respect to lighting, acoustics, etc., that are beyond our control. However, to assist visitors with this, we have reduced the number of attendees that can register for this block and have identified spaces in and around this venue that can be used as a more sensory-friendly space. We also have individually packaged foam earplugs available on-site for anyone who requires them. If you need anything specific to support your access needs for this event beyond what we have considered, do not hesitate to contact lriggs@mun.ca in advance of the event, and we will make every effort to support your request
