    Location: Remote or on-site in St. John’s, NL
    Compensation: $25.94/hour

    Position Overview
    An Aquaculture Intern will support our marine sourcing and biomaterial extraction initiatives. This position requires a solid understanding of marine biology, practical experience in cultivating and extracting marine plants, and a commitment to environmental conservation. Responsibilities include fieldwork and lab support, data collection, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.

    Key Responsibilities
    • Research marine-sourced biomass (e.g., seaweed, algae) with emphasis on biological characteristics, growth environments, and suitability for biopolymer extraction and bioplastic development.
    • Conduct literature reviews and compile research summaries to inform formulation strategies and sustainability considerations.
    • Collaborate with chemists and materials scientists to align biomass properties with downstream processing and product development needs.
    • Document lab experiments, extraction trials, and process parameters in a structured format using Excel or equivalent digital tools.
    • Analyze experimental data using spreadsheets or data-visualization tools to identify trends, optimize parameters, and support decision-making.
    • Assist in preparing technical reports, experimental documentation, and content for internal presentations, grant applications, or future publications.

    Qualifications
    • Currently enrolled in Applied Ocean Technology (Graduate Diploma or MAOT), Aquaculture (Graduate Diploma with internship), or Fisheries Resource Management (Graduate Diploma, MMS).
    • Proficiency in research and data analysis relevant to marine biology, biomaterials, and bioactive compound extraction.
    • Familiarity with environmental regulations and sustainable practices in marine resource management.
    • Strong research, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly.
